Each year the University of Calgary celebrates remarkable Alumni at the Arch Awards. In 2020, this live awards ceremony needed to be moved online. In past years, award recipients were captured in professional shoots, so the photos honouring them were high-quality and consistent.

In 2020, the photos supplied by recipients (many now outside of the county) were all over the quality map. So instead of using sub-par headshots, I suggested investing in having all their portraits illustrated by Calgary artist Karen Klassen.

The result was outstanding and set the visual tone for the promotional materials and the streamed event itself. Karen was able to integrate UCalgary brand colours into the portraits and gave the graphics exceptional character. Award recipients were also gifted framed prints of their own portraits.
